“New Media School” organized in May this year by Kaos GL, APC partner in the Sexual Rights Project, took place with the participation of over 20 reporter candidates from 14 different cities.

In the first day of the school (12th May), basic news writing and social media workshops were conducted in order to strengthen the LGBTI formations and activists in social media field and to expand the voluntary reporter network of KaosGL.org.

The first workshop of the school started with the speeches of Secin Tuncel and Yildiz Tar from Kaos GL and journalist Bugra Tokmakoglu conveyed the historical background of the “news” and “journal/newspaper” concepts.

Journalist Bugra Tokmakoglu who gave a speech at the “New Media School” of Kaos GL said that “Gays and lesbians are changing the world by making news.” Journalist Mehmet Atakan Foca on the other hand, provided a social media training to the reporter candidates.

Isik Mater and Orkut Murat Yilmaz from Alternative Informatics Association conducted a digital security workshop for the participants of “New Media School”.

“New Media School” ended with social policies session of Research Assistant Sedat Yagcioglu and “past and present of LGBTI publishing” session of Ali Erol from Kaos GL. The reporters followed the IDAHOT activities following the four days training.
