APC, together with Privacy International, Access, the American Civil Liberties Union, Amnesty International, ARTICLE 19, Electronic Frontier Foundation, and the International Commission of Jurists, have developed a checklist with qualifications we believe that candidates for the new position of UN Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy should possess.

The Human Rights Council established the mandate for a new Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy at its 28th session in March. Candidates may apply for the position through an online application process until 30 April 2015.

We encourage the wide dissemination of the call for applications, along with this checklist, to help ensure that the strongest candidates are considered for this position. The new Special Rapporteur will play a critical role in promoting and protecting the right to privacy amidst significant threats. We encourage individuals with technological expertise as well as deep understanding of the specific challenges and violations faced by at-risk and marginalised individuals and groups to apply.
