How are internet governance and policy making developing? In the global South, and particularly under repressive regimes, regulations often reflect disregard for human rights obligations. How can we work for the preservation of the core values of the internet – interoperability, universality, free expression and the free flow of information – in these contexts?
A panel on "Cyberlaw and human rights: Intersections in the global South", held 31 January at Harvard Law School, addressed these and related concerns. APC's Gayatri Khandhadai, Juan Carlos Lara of APC member organisation Derechos Digitales and Jessica Dheere from Lebanon-based APC member Social Media Exchange (SMEX), along with representatives of other international organisations, gathered to reflect on the development of legislation and case law related to cyberspace and discuss their implications for the future of human rights online.
