Myanmar ICT for Development Organisation (MIDO) is an APC member organisation working on ICTs for peace. They provide support to human rights defenders, journalists, activists and human rights lawyers in a country that has lately suffered long periods of internet shutdowns. Their work includes raising awareness about the effects of Myanmar’s Telecommunications Law, which criminalises free speech and has been used by the authorities to intimidate critics and journalists.
Myo Min Aung, programme manager for the organisation, joined the latest African School on Internet Governance (AfriSIG) in N’Djamena, Chad, on 4-9 September. We talked to him about digital rights in Myanmar, how his participation in the School will impact their work, and what’s ahead.
