Pedro Ekman
Pedro Ekman is an architect, filmmaker and executive coordinator of Intervozes, a Brazilian civil society organisation fighting for the right to communication since 2003. In 2009 he directed the short film “Raise Your Voice” about freedom of expression and concentration of the Brazilian media. In 2014, working for Intervozes, he contributed to achieving the adoption of the Marco Civil da Internet (Brazilian Civil Rights Framework for the Internet), a law that regulates the use of the internet in Brazil through the provision of principles, guarantees, rights and duties for those who use the network. He wrote and directed the documentary film “Freenet”, about the future of freedom on the internet from the perspective of the global South, in 2016. Since 2020, he has been working at the Common Tactical Laboratory, which proposes to develop counter-colonial technologies together with the Guarani-M’byá people from the Tenondé Porã Indigenous Territory in the municipality of São Paulo.
