The Team CommUNITY Global Gathering (TCU-GG) will be taking place this year from 27 to 29 September, bringing together participants from around the globe to explore four thematic tracks:
- Ecosystem Wellbeing
- Circumvention Technologies
- Security, Threats, and Risks
- Digital Rights 2050
Formerly known as the Internet Freedom Festival (IFF), the Global Gathering re-emerged last year following the COVID-19 pandemic with a fresh format, expanded participant capacity and a renewed commitment to bringing together “digital rights networks from around the world for three days of collaboration building, knowledge sharing, brainstorming, and rejuvenation”. The event will take place in Estoril, Portugal, and a large representation from the APC network will be taking part in the various activities, including Thai Netizen Network, Point of View, Sursiendo, eQualitie, Pollicy, TEDIC, Jokkolabs Banjul, Zaina Foundation, Colnodo, 7amleh, EngageMedia, Open Culture Foundation, SMEX and Taller de Comunicación Mujer, along with a number of associates.
The network’s participation strategy at the Global Gathering has been informed by several discussions in the lead-up to the event, and have identified three primary goals of participation that also speak to APC’s strategic plan:
- Map and connect: With many participants from various sectors attending the event, it is a valuable opportunity to connect with and learn from actors in the digital rights and digital security space.
- Capacity and knowledge building: The event will offer ample opportunities for learning and enhance understanding of priority areas such as artificial intelligence, mis/disinformation, digital threats, mitigation strategies and digital infrastructure.
- Promoting and strengthening common agendas: Through multiple projects and initiatives, APC will be able to build partnerships and deepen collaborations with a view to strengthening our advocacy work.
Alongside plenaries, social events and celebrations, programming at the event will centre around two meeting formats: circles and booths. Circles include facilitated 45-minute discussions and meetups following a preset agenda. Booths, on the other hand, are two-hour spaces that participants can shape freely to showcase their work through flexible formats including demos, discussions and skill sharing.
The following schedule indicates circles and booths being organised by the APC network through the three days of the event. You can also access more details on the event schedule wiki.
