International Repair Day, celebrated every year on the third Saturday of October – which falls on 19 October this year – raises awareness about the benefits of repairing rather than replacing items in this rapidly changing technological landscape. APC is proud to join this global event initiated in 2017 by the Open Repair Alliance to promote the repair movement around the world.

We will be joining a webinar on 15 October called “The state of EU right to repair: Missing pieces to a thriving repair economy in Europe”, where the Open Repair Alliance will present their report findings on open repair data from repair cafés. Other ways of getting involved have been compiled by Open Repair as well, including a Repair Day Handbook, social media graphics and a map of global events. You can also follow along on social media with the #InternationalRepairDay hashtag. APC will be sharing updates on Mastodon, LinkedIn, Twitter-X, Facebook and Instagram.

Here is a selection of the APC network’s work and resources to help support all our endeavours on this day.

Our Seeding Change column includes various examples of the right to repair and environmental work by APC members:

A guide to the circular economy of digital devices

This guide is divided into 12 modules, and illustrated through case studies. It describes the concepts, processes and some of the major challenges to circularity, and summarises the key challenges and opportunities, including for policy advocacy. It is also available in French and Spanish.

APC’s interview series on Our Circular Future

This series of five engaging interviews reconnects with APC network members who contributed to the guide to the circular economy of digital devices, this time about their vision for Our Circular Future regarding information and communications technologies (ICTs).
